Yedid DC is a musical, spiritual Friday night Shabbat service inspired by Shlomo Carlebach's melodies, the highly-successful Kabbalat Shabbat service at B'nai Jeshurun in New York City, the Havurah movement, and other ancient and modern traditions. Our service blends traditional liturgy and live music within an egalitarian framework; our mission is to foster growth in the greater Washington Jewish community through a spiritual, traditional, and musical Shabbat experience.
Yedid DC was founded in the Spring of 2000 with the guidance and support
of our sponsoring organization, the Am Kolel Judaic Resource and Renewal Center in Rockville. We held our first service on June 2, and by the end of that Summer, our regular attendance had grown to over 300 singles, couples, and families from all across the Greater Washington metro region. In the Fall of 2000 we added small-hosted and community potluck dinners to our Friday night experience.
Today, Yedid DC has five principal goals:
- Offer a musical, spiritual Friday night Shabbat service to the community at least once per month.
- Encourage a variety of community members to participate in every Yedid DC service.
- Establish a core community of Yedid DC congregants.
- Foster awareness of Judaism and the resources and services available within the greater Washington Jewish community.
- Become a self-sufficient organization through effective fundraising.

About the Organizing Committee
The Yedid DC Organizing Committee is a group of online blackjack tournament dedicated volunteer congregants who operate Yedid DC for the benefit of the community. Each member of the Committee is responsible for different "behind-the-scenes" functions that are essential to Yedid DC's taking place each month, and as a community we are grateful for their contribution.
